In 1922, Einar Andersson wove the first baskets that came to be Korbo Classic 35.
Today, 100 years later, each basket is still woven by hand using the exact same technique and tools. Behind every basket lies skilled craftsmanship and it takes years to fully master the technique and the materials to craft a Korbo basket. The unique design with a single handwoven wire, completely without weldings, is the reason why the Korbo baskets are so durable. There are simply no parts that can fall apart!
Sustainability is all about long-lasting products and enduring designs which is why the Korbo basket is as relevant today as it was 100 years ago.
In the old days, the baskets were used by fishermen and farmers or anyone who needed reliable carrying and storage that could withstand weather, wind, wear and tear. Today Korbo has turned the classic basket into a loved interior storage icon found in homes and gardens globally!
Korbo baskets are found in over 25 countries and over 400 stores around the world. Sweden and Germany are our core markets, last year sales increased by 52 % in Sweden. Our main export markets USA, Japan and Korea are also growing rapidly. Where you can find us at the high-end design stores Design within Reach, Isitan, Cassina and Conran amongst others!
The recognition of our 100 years celebration has given us inspiration and ambition for the upcoming years. The knowledge and curiosity from a craftsmanship lasting and thriving after 100 years have helped us define our core values and sparked ideas for the future. Working with design, material, construction and function in an equal combination have become our strength. We are excited to share our plans for the future in the coming months!
